Bernard Madoff mengaku menyesal atas penipuan
Pengelola dana AS Bernard Madoff dihukum penjara 150 tahun atas dakwaan penipuan yang merugikan investor $65 miliar.

Kasus penipuan investasi terbesar dalam sejarah Amerika ini disidangkan di pengadilan New York.

Hakim menyatakan, hukuman penjara - yang merupakan hukuman terberat yang bisa dijatuhkan - penting bagi korban dan sebagai sarana pencegahan (deterrent) bagi orang lain.

Para korban penipuan Maddof bertepuk tangan ketika vonis dibacakan.

Sebagian dari mereka sebelumnya mengatakan di pengadilan bahwa mereka telah menderita akibat penipuan senilai 65 miliar dollar tersebut.

Sebelum divonis, Madoff mengatakan, dia tidak mungkin memberikan alasan, dan dia akan harus hidup dalam penderitaan yang dia timbulkan sepanjang sisa umurnya.

Meminta maaf

Hakim Distrik Denny Chin menggambarkan kejahatan Madoff "mencengangkan".

Pengacara Madoff berusaha mengupayakan hukuman yang lebih ringan yaitu 12 tahun.

Hakim Chin menghukum Madoff atas 11 dakwaan, termasuk penipuan surat berharga dan pemutihan uang.

Madoff berdiri dengan kedua tangan di depannya saat mendengarkan amar putusan dibacakan hakim.

Dalam persidangan, Madoff mengatakan penggelapan itu dimulai pada awal tahun 1990an.

Nuraki Aziz Produser BBC Siaran Indonesia

Anggota Komisi I DPR Djoko Susilo mengatakan Malaysia sepakat dengan Indonesia untuk memulai kembali perundingan dengan mempergunakan konvensi kelautan PBB.

Konvensi yang dimaksud oleh Djoko Susilo adalah United Nation Convention Law of the Sea 1982 yang sudah diratifikasi oleh Indonesia dan Malaysia.

Kesimpulan ini didapat Djoko Susilo setelah bertemu dengan wakil Menteri Luar Negeri Malaysia hari Rabu (10/06) di Kuala Lumpur.

"Indonesia berada pada posisi yang lebih kuat karena menurut konvensi itu kami mempunyai soveign rights, beda dengan sovereignity, terhadap ambalat," ujar Djoko Susilo kepada Radio BBC Siaran Indonesia.

"Karena Indonesia adalah negara kepulauan berdasarkan konvensi itu, sementara Malaysia tidak. Jadi ketentuan mengenai negara kepulauan berlaku untuk Indonesia dan tidak untuk Malaysia."

Dalam kunjungan itu lima anggota komisi I DPR juga bertemu dengan Angkatan Laut Malaysia di Kuala Lumpur.

Djoko Susilo mengatakan Angkatan Laut Malaysia meminta maaf atas perbuatan personelnya yang tidak menyenangkan bagi Indonesia.

Sementara di Jakarta Menteri Pertahanan Juwono Sudarsono mengusulkan kegiatan patroli bersama oleh kedua negara atas wilayah itu.

Pernyataan Juwono dikemukakan setelah bertemu dengan Panglima Angkatan Tentara Malaysia hari Rabu (10/06).

Pertikaian mengenai kepulauan yang diperkirakan memiliki cadangan gas dan minyak ini berasal dari satu peta yang dibuat oleh Malaysia tahun 1979 yang menempatkan kepulauan itu kedalam wilayahnya.

Indonesia memprotes langkah Malaysia itu.

Tahun 1999 dan 2004 Indonesia memberi konsesi kepada dua perusahaan minyak untuk melakukan eksplorasi di wilayah tersebut.

Sementara tahun 2005 Malaysia menyerahkan kontrak eksplorasi di wilayah yang sama kepada satu perusahaan minyak asing.

Pidato Presiden Barack Obama di Mesir

Obama imbau babak baru AS-muslim

	Presiden Mubarak sambut Presiden Obama di Kairo

Presiden AS Barack Obama menyerukan babak baru dalam hubungan Amerika dengan dunia Muslim saat berpidato di Kairo, Mesir.

Presiden Obama mengatakan, "daur kecurigaan dan perselisihan" antara Amerika Serikat dan Dunia muslim harus dihentikan.

Obama mengakui, telah terjadi "bertahun ketidakpercayaan" dan mengatakan, kedua pihak perlu melakukan "upaya berkelanjutan...untuk saling menghargai dan mencari pijakan bersama".

Obama beberapa kali mengutip al Quran dan mendesak umat semua agama hidup bersama dalam damai.

Dia disambut tepuk tangan panjang pada akhir pidato di Universitas Kairo.

Wartawan BBC Christian Fraser di Kairo mengatakan, Barack Obama ingin menyampaikan pesan ke kawasan yang sering merasa disisihkan, disalahfahami atau didikte oleh Amerika Serikat.

Para pejabat Gedung Putih mengatakan, pidato itu dimaksudkan untuk memulai proses "untuk memberikan energi baru ke dialog dengan dunia Muslim".

'Saling hormat'

Obama berpidato di Universitas Kairo dalam bagian lawatannya ke Timur Tengah dan Eropa.

Sebelum tiba di Mesir, Presiden AS telah berkunjung ke Arab Saudi. Dia juga akan berkunjung ke Jerman dan Prancis.

Obama mengatakan: "Saya datang kemari untuk mengupayakan awal baru antara Amerika Serikat dan Muslim di seluruh dunia; suatu awal yang berdasarkan kepentingan bersama dan saling hormat."

Obama menambahkan "ekstrimis yang suka kekerasan" telah menyebarkan ketakutan dan "daur kecurigaan dan perselisihaan harus berakhir".

Obama mengaku "tidak ada satu pidato yang bisa menghapus bertahun-tahun perasaan tidak percaya" tapi mendesak kedua pihak "menyatakan secara terbuka hal-hal yang kita yakini dalam hati kita dan terlalu sering hanya diungkapkan di ruang tertutup."

Obama mengatakan, Islam "selalu menjadi bagian dari kisah Amerika".

Dia menambahkan, sebagian ditarik dari fakta bahwa seorang warga Amerika keturunan Afrika bernama Barack Hussein Obama telah menjadi presiden AS, tapi Obama menekankan, kisah pribadinya "tidak begitu unik".

"Impian kesempatan bagi semua orang beum menjadi kenyataan bagi setiap orang di Amerika, tapi janjinya ada bagi semua orang yang datang ke pantai kami - termasuk hampir tujuh juta warga Muslim Amerika."

'Tidak bisa ditolerir'

President Obama juga mengatakan, persepsi Muslim terhadap Amerika harus berubah.

"Sebagaimana Muslim tidak layak masuk dalam stereotip umum, Amerika juga stereotip umum negara besar yang hanya mengutamakan kepentingan sendiri," ujar Obama.

Obama mengatakan, Islam memiliki peran penting dalam memajukan perdamaian dan menanggulangi ekstrimisme.

Dia mengatakan: "Kami akan senang memulangkan setiap tentara kami jika kami bisa yakin tidak ada ekstrimis kekerasan di Afghanistan dan Pakistan bertekad untuk membunuh orang Amerika, sebanyak yang mungkin mereka lakukan. Tapi, itu belum menjadi kenyataan."

Mengenai masalah Israel-Palestina, Obama mengatakan, ikatan dengan Israel "tidak bisa dipatahkan".

Dia mengatakan: "Orang-orang Palestina harus meninggalkan tindak kekerasan. Perlawanan melalui tindak kekerasan dan pembunuhan itu keliru."

Namun, Obama juga mengatakan "situasi bagi bangsa Palestina juga tidak dapat ditolerir".

"Israelis harus mengakui sebagaimana hak hidup Israel tidak bisa dipungkiri, demikian pula (hak hidup) Palestina," tambah Obama.

Saat menyinggung pemukiman Israel di Tepi Barat, Obama mengatakan "tidak mungkin ada kemajuan ke arah perdamaian tanpa pembangunan semacam itu dihentikan".

Israel menolak seruan untuk membekukan kegiatan pembangunan pemukiman Yahudi, tapi para pemimpin Palestina telah menyatakan, tidak mungkin akan ada kemajua ke arah perdamaian tanpa penghentian.

Soal isu nuklir Iran, Obama mengatakan: "Tidak satu negara pun boleh memilih dan memutuskan negara mana yang memiliki senjata nuklir" dan menambahkan, Iran memiliki hak atas tenaga nuklir untuk tujuan damai.

Namun, Obama mengatakan, lomba senjata nuklir tidak boleh terjadi di Timur Tengah.

Menjelang Obama berpidato di Mesir, pemimpin tertinggi Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei juga berpidato dan menyatakan Amerika Serikat masih "sangat dibenci" di Timur Tengah.

Soal demokrasi, Obama mengatakan "Amerika tidak berprasangka tahu yang terbaik bagi semua orang".

"Tidak ada sistem pemerintahan yang bisa atau seyogyanya diterapkan terhadap satu bangsa oleh bangsa lain," kata Obama.

Presiden Amerika juga menyinggung soal hak wanita, dan menyatakan: "Anak-anak perempuan kita bisa memberikan sumbangan sama besarnya kepada masyarakat seperti seperti anak-anak laki-laki kita."

Obama tiba di Mesir dari kunjungan ke Arab Saudi.

Di Mesir, Obama juga akan berkunjung ke piramida sebelum bertolak ke Jerman dan Prancis.
